On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total or near-total solar eclipse will occur in Ohio at approximately 3:00 p.m. The last visible total solar eclipse in Ohio was in 1806 and the next one is anticipated in 2099.
Due to this rare occurrence, Grandview Heights Schools will have an early release beginning at 11:30 a.m. on April 8, 2024. This early release allows families time to travel to areas with a guaranteed view of the total solar eclipse. Lunch will not be served on April 8; however, students will be able to purchase a sack lunch to take with them.
Grandview Heights Schools is partnering with the City of Grandview Heights Parks and Recreation Department, the Grandview Heights Public Library, and community organizations to plan eclipse community events.
On April 6, 2024, there will be a family and community event where there will be activities to learn more about space and the eclipse. On April 8, 2024, families can view the eclipse from the lawn of Wyman Woods. Solar eclipse safety glasses have been purchased for all students. Here is the link to register for this event.
We appreciate your support as we turn this celestial event into an educational opportunity for our students. If you have any questions, please contact Chief Academic Officer Angela Ullum at [email protected].
