On Friday, September 26, Grandview Heights High School welcomed alumni to join students, staff, and community members in “kicking off” what will be a year long celebration of Grandview Heights High School’s 100th Commencement Ceremony.
An Alumni Open House, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the high school lobby, was well attended. The home football game against Columbus Academy began at 7 p.m. on Anderson Field and ended in a Grandview Heights win. Hundreds of alumni attended including the 1934 Homecoming Queen, former Queens and Court members; Athletic Hall of Fame members; former band/drill/majorette members (many who performed with the band); former football players and cheerleaders; and reunion attendees from the Classes of 1954, 1974, 1979, 1984, and 1999.
Alumni Night is merely the beginning as many exciting opportunities throughout the year are planned to educate, celebrate, and ultimately enhance the graduation experience for the Class of 2015.
The Grandview Heights High School 100th Commencement Committee began planning in November 2013 and is comprised of community members including Ray DeGraw (Mayor of Grandview Heights), Kent Studebaker (Mayor of the Village of Marble Cliff), Ryan McDonnell (Director of Grandview Heights Public Library), Tom Smith (President of GHHSAA), Tom DeMaria (Local Historian), parents, staff members, several alumni, teachers, and current students.
As well, Grandview Heights Spirit Wear is now available for purchase. New items include plaid PJ bottoms and shorts, jersey blankets, and giftwrapped Bobcat Holiday ornaments. The Pride of Grandview Marching Band t-shirts and a limited supply of warm up suits are also for sale.
Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted (additional processing fee for VISA/MC). For additional information, contact Kim Sides at at [email protected] or Lisa McNamara at 614-388-8874.
