Grandview Heights High School's FIRST Robotics Team 128 received the Team Spirit Award at the Queen City Regional competition held March 31 - April 2 at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Team Spirit Award celebrates extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit through exceptional partnership and teamwork furthering the objectives of FIRST. The criteria includes:
■ Spirit is consistent both throughout the team and also throughout the contest in attitude, appearance, originality, and depth.
■ The team displays obvious enthusiasm – in supporting teams, appearance, interactions with teams/Judges, etc. – at the competition.
■ Spirit is part of the team and is apparent in all they do, including at their school, in their community, with sponsors and other teams, etc.
■ They demonstrate spirit as a unified team.
Team 128 was selected due to their displayed enthusiasm in the stands and with each other. Judges cited the team's enthusiasm for and promotion of STEM in working with the younger generation while running our FLL tournament. The judges also highlighted the STEM-related coloring book that the team produced when they partnered with the YWCA Family Shelter.
As a result of their performance at both Regional competitions, Team 128 is one of 24 teams to receive an invitation to the Ohio State FIRST Championship. The Ohio State FIRST Championship is be May 21, 2016, at Thomas Worthington High School.
