Facility Planning Process - Community Engagement Update

Community members, educators, parents, and students continued to join the conversation regarding best practices and how we teach and how that can be best supported by facilities during day two of the Educational Visioning process on Saturday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Dr. Frank Locker of Frank Locker Educational Planning facilitated the day two session.

The group engaged in a variety of explorations and activities.  One of the core activities included learning about how K-12 educational buildings are being built today.  They studied many and varied examples of space including classrooms, cafeterias, media centers, and other common collaborative spaces.  Participants believed that the more progressive learning spaces could provide more opportunities for students to apply and learn real-life skills through class presentations, internships, and project-based learning.  Students should also have space to collaborate and work in small groups, similar to the environments that they will encounter in today’s colleges and workplaces.

Attached please find photos taken and materials shared during the day two session.

Please plan to attend the next Community Engagement Meeting #4 on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the John Glenn Community Center - EI/LMS Commons.  As well, there will be a building tour of Edison Intermediate/Larson Middle School on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 6:30 p.m.  This building tour is similar to the previous tours, but will allow residents yet another opportunity to see the condition of the building up close.
