From Monday, April 24, to Friday, April 28, Stevenson Elementary will be celebrating annual Every Kid Healthy Week by turning off the TV, turning up the activity, trying news foods, and practicing mindfulness. Every Kid Healthy Week also coincides with Screen Free Week which includes a family challenge to turn off the TV for the entire week and engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity together.
Mindfulness Monday will include 3-5 minute videos that explain how mindfulness occurs when we pay attention to what is happening in the here and now. Emotions, thoughts, breath, and surroundings are observed in an even-minded, non-judgemental way.
Two Step Tuesday will host a hip hop instructor to teach the kids some new moves. Wednesday will have students trying new foods in the cafeteria. On Thursday, students who successfully complete Screen Free Week with their families will receive water bottles along with reminders about hydration. And on Friday students will experience circuit workout choices on the playground.
This week is planned and hosted by the Wellness for Life, Department of Food Services, Physcial Education Teacher Tom Gilber, and School Counselor Stephanie Doran.
