District Prepares to Break Ground, Enter Construction Phase on New 4-8 Building
November 2019 marks one year since the passage of Issue 6 - a combined bond and operating levy that has allowed us to maintain our current programming and operations and enabled the district to implement the comprehensive Facilities Master Plan. The plan includes a comprehensive renovation of Grandview Heights High School, a rebuild of the 4-8 school, and safety, security, and ADA upgrades at all of our school buildings. Thank you again to our community for your support in making this possible.
We are pleased to report that we have just completed the design phase of the project. During the design phase, the district’s architects facilitated workshops and meetings with staff, community members, and students on the design of our new and upgraded school facilities. The district created multiple committees to review and provide feedback to the process and hosted community meetings so that all stakeholders were actively engaged from start to finish. With your feedback, we were able to design buildings that will prepare our students for today’s modern world. Thank you!
Soon we will begin moving dirt and preparing the site for construction. Then in January,residents can expect to see large equipment and fencing appear around the schools, as well as changes to access to sidewalks and parking lots, and modified traffic patterns. Anyone who’s built or renovated a home knows that it can sometimes be disruptive to our daily routines. Our goal is to work with our families, staff, and community to make sure this process goes as smoothly and safely as possible. We will communicate these details with you as they begin to happen, so that you can plan your day around them.

We will be posting “Hard Hat” video updates and monthly drone flights so all residents can follow along on the progress of our construction. We are also in the process of organizing an official groundbreaking in January. We hope you will join us for this celebratory event. Details will be shared with you soon.
We remain committed to our goal of completing the project on time and on budget. The plan is to complete all ADA and safety upgrades by the summer of 2022 and have students attend school in the new 4-8 building and renovated high school by the winter of 2023.

Throughout the facility planning process, we will keep you informed and answer any questions you may have. We have received questions about when and where students will attend the new 4-8 building and renovated Grandview Heights High School. We have created a chart ( located at right and also attached at the bottom of this page) that explains when and how students will transition from the old schools to the new and renovated buildings. Please note students will not attend classes in trailers during construction. The district's overall and ongoing goal is to provide modern, efficient, and safe schools for our students on time and on budget. District Hosts Fourth Building Design Community Meeting, Enters Construction Documents Phase
Grandview Heights Schools hosted Community Meeting #4 on the Master Plan Design on Wednesday, August 21, at 7:30 p.m. and then repeated the meeting on Thursday, August 22, at 9 a.m., in the Edison Intermediate & Larson Middle School Commons located at 1240 Oakland Avenue.
The Programming, Schematic, and Design phases of the project have been completed and the Grandview Heights Schools Board of Education voted at their August 14, 2019, regular meeting to approve the the Construction Documents phase. This meeting reviewed the most current floor plan and exterior design based on the completion of the three phases mentioned above.

A Message from Superintendent Andy Culp
With the passage of Issue 6, Grandview Heights Schools has created a webpage to keep our community updated on the progress of our Facilities Planning Process. Right now, we’ve entered into the design phase where community members, staff, families, and students will help us with the design of our new and updated school buildings.
In December, the Board of Education passed resolutions authorizing the school district to enter into contract negotiations with the architects and construction firms that will design and renovate Grandview Heights High School, build a new Edison Intermediate & Larson Middle School, and make safety and accessibility updates to Stevenson Elementary.
Moody Nolan, a local architectural firm, will be teaming up with Perkins+Will, a nationally recognized firm specializing in educational facilities, to design the buildings. Elford Construction and Corna Kokosing will oversee the construction and renovation of our schools. We look forward to our new partnerships and the work ahead as we begin to make much needed safety, security, and ADA upgrades and improvements to our learning spaces.
Over the next year, we will be conducting the Design Phase of the Facilities Plan. There are four stages of the design process: Program Design; Schematic Design; Design Development and Construction Documents. These stages must be completed to determine the final design and costs of the project, and must be completed before the actual construction of the facilities can begin.
As we enter into the important design and construction phases of this process, we want you to continue to “Join the Conversation.” Please visit this website to stay informed on the progress and any future meetings regarding the design and construction of the school buildings.
